WHAT

The 77 minute feature film Equal the Contest will be re-edited into an approximately 20 minute short film, with a workshop designed around the themes and messages. This workshop will be in total 45-1hr (20 min film, 30 – 40 min discussion).

This new iteration of Equal the Contest has been made possible with thanks to the Office of Women in Sport’s Change Our Game Community Activation Grant.

WHO

This project is a partnership between Mitch Nivalis (Director) and Sports Focus Bendigo, who will be advising on the edit and workshop development. The collaboration with Sports Focus will also allow us to connect with sporting organisations in Victoria as we run a pilot program with 6 sporting bodies, prior to the release of the workshop more broadly in 2025.

This workshop will be available to all sporting clubs and organisations across codes, around the world.

WHY

Gender inequality and discrimination still exists for women, gender diverse people, people of colour, faith, age, body shape and ability. Sport is a hub for our communities and creating safe and accessible spaces where all people can thrive is essential to healthy communities. Equal the Contest has been opening up conversations across Australian and the world as a feature film, but this new abridged version and workshop will allow those conversations to be had in time poor, volunteer run community sports spaces.
