Mitch Nivalis (they / them)

Mitch has been producing film and photography projects for 17 years under their production company MDP Photography and Video. In 2017 they released their first self funded 40 min documentary film The Wonder of Improvisation and their short films have been screened on ABC TV, Byron Bay Film Festival and First Nations Broadcasting NT. Mitch has dedicated their work to projects that celebrate diversity, inclusion and challenge gender roles and stereotypes. Equal the Contest is their first feature documentary film and is the culmination of their Masters in Arts (Photography) at Photography Studies College. In addition to the film, the project includes a fine art photo book celebrating players stories and a 10 minute silent projection video art piece which was commissioned by the Castlemaine Art Museum. Mitch is based on Dja Dja Wurrung country.

PRODUCER

Tony Coombs (he / him)

Tony is the CEO of Harvest Pictures Group, based on Wurundjeri country. He has extensive history of content creation at a high level across film, television and online. Film credits include Measure for Measure and In God’s Care. He is the preselection juror for the Australian Academy of Cinema Television and Arts (AACTA) and official partner of AACTA’s Asia Engagement program.

 

Tony has worked extensively in Asia including working with Guangzhou TV and producing for shows which aired on Mango TV and other platforms. He’s the writer / producer of Girl of Ashima, now in production with China Film Group and Producer of documentary film I Can Jump Puddles. Tony is a brand funded contest specialist including programs on Networks 9 and 10 (Australia) TVNZ and Fox Sports. He’s a board member of Antipodes Theatre Company and former board Chair person of ‘The Warwick Foundation’.

ASSOCIATE PRODUCER

Alex Kelly (she / her)

 

Alex is an artist, filmmaker, producer and activist based on Dja Dja Wurrung land. Working across film, theatre, communications strategy and troublemaking, Alex purposefully connects the disciplines of art and social change. Alex’s previous films include This Changes Everything (Global Impact & Distribution Producer), Island of the Hungry Ghosts (Producer), In My Blood It Runs (Impact Producer) and Nothing Rhymes with Ngapartji (Producer). In 2013, Alex was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to research documentaries and their social impact in the UK, Canada and the USA; Alex has been further supported by a Sidney Myer Creative Fellowship in 2016 and a Bertha Challenge Fellowship in 2020. Alongside Unquiet Alex’s current focus is the futuring practice The Things We Did Next, a collaborative hybrid of theatre, imagination and democracy.
